If you’re looking for a crab restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, look no further than Seungjin-Ho Hong-Gae. In this review, I’ll share my experience dining at “Seungjin-Ho Hong-Gae” and why I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Located in the heart of Sokcho, Seungjin-Ho Hong-Gae is a cozy and welcoming restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the owner, who welcomed me with a smile and showed me to my seat.
Menu
The menu at Seungjin-Ho Hong-Gae is extensive, featuring a few of fresh red snow crab dishes such as Hong-gae tang (soup made with red snow crab)” and Hong-gae ramyeon. But, their signature dish, pronounced “Hong-gae Mu-han refill” in Korean, offers unlimited refills of Hong-Gae, a type of red crab that’s only found in the waters off the east coast of Korea.
Five steamed red snow crabs (for two people) were served as a standard serving, which is followed by unlimited refills so you can enjoy as much of it as you want without worrying about the cost. The menu has a 100-minute time limit for dining.
The staff kindly explains how to properly extract and eat the crab meat while serving. They also informed us that the internal organs should be set aside if we wanted to order fried rice (pronounced as Bok-keum bap in Korean) after finishing eating the crabs. I think the staffs in that restaurant can speak English so it will not be difficult for you.
When I tried the Hong-Gae for the first time, I was blown away by how flavorful and delicious it was. The meat was very tender, warm, and juicy.
Even though we only had two refills, we couldn’t eat much due to feeling a little full. After the crabs, we ordered fried rice, and that was so delicious. Even if you don’t try anything else, I highly recommend trying their fried rice.
